Pulau Ubin is an island on the north eastern side of Singapore and within reach with a 15-minute bumboat ride. This boomerang shaped island is preserved for its cultural and natural heritage and also known to the locals as the last “kampung” (term for rural habitation).

What to see at Pulau Ubin
You can expect to see a variety of species of birds, reptiles, fishes and mammals. Common bird species include the Kingfisher, Egret, Heron, Hornbill, and Sea Eagle, which can be easily spotted. Wild boars and water monitors are sometimes also spotted along the mangroves. If you keep really still, you will notice the mudskippers perched on the mangrove roots. For the very lucky ones, you might even spot smooth otters. However, they are very shy animals and sightings of the smooth otters are rare and few in between. You will also be introduced to a variety of plant species, including the mangroves themselves.
